Protection of the Area

The purchase of the rainforest guarantees its conservation. Because the land is to be placed under perpetual nature conservation and protected for future generations, the land ownership rights lie with both Wilderness International Germany and Canada. As a nature protection foundation, we will not resell the land, clear cut the forest or carry out any type of action that damages its ecological integrity. Your sponsorship enables us to purchase land and guarantees its protection in perpetuity.

By providing you with the precise geo-coordinates, you are able to locate your protected area. We encourage you to visit Canada in order to experience the untouched beauty you have preserved with your sponsored piece of rainforest.

Threat to biodiversity

These forests are the largest contiguous temperate rainforests on earth. They are acutely threatened by the logging and mining industries. Globally, only 25 percent of all temperate rainforests with their unique plant and animal life remain. The forests store more carbon dioxide per hectare than any other forest type on earth and are very important as a buffer against climate change.

Cooperation with First Nations

Indigenous peoples have lived in this region for thousands of years. In recent decades, they had to watch as their homeland was systematically exploited. The life of the West Coast First Nations is rich in traditions that support a sustainable relationship with nature. Wilderness International maintains a strong conservation partnership with the people of the Cowichan, the largest Canadian West Coast First Nation and the Gwich'in from the Arctic. With your sponsorship, you also support projects involving indigenous people.

Responsibility of the sponsor

As a sponsor, you have voluntarily undertaken a financial responsibility for the conservation of our planet. This generous act does not come with any personal legal liability. Wilderness International assumes responsibility for the purchase and maintenance of the conservation area. Your sponsorship is a one-time donation with no further installments or maintenance fees required.

Your sponsored area on the internet

As a sponsor, you will receive a certificate and individual sponsorship code enabling you to make name changes to your assigned piece of land. On this certificate, you will find the GPS coordinates of your land, detailing its exact location. This ensures that each piece of land is assigned to one sponsor only. Wilderness International guarantees the protection of your personal data and will not pass it on to third parties.
