In the wilderness lies the preservation of the world.
Henry David Thoreau
Environmental Summit at FIS
This is Alyssa and Kirstin signing in! We are students from Vancouver Island University in the Cowichan Valley, and we are currently taking part in the Germany trip with Wilderness International.
Today was our first presentation here at Frankfurt International School (FIS). We sang along side with the Cowichan people, as they drummed and danced to two traditional songs; the paddle song and the victory song. It was such an honor to be included in their group, and we are looking forward to more performances to come. Now, we are preparing for two workshops with the students from FIS. Hwiemtun will be doing a cedar weaving workshop and Yut’xum will be teaching students how to carve with cedar.
Once again, we are more than honored to be a part of this experience with Wilderness International! No words can describe the excitement and happiness we are feeling!
We would also like to wish Gerald, one of the Cowichan students here, a very very happy birthday. Happy Birthday Ger-bear!
