The Bildungskreis Handwerk e.V. takes on a unique pioneering role in climate protection in regional education
The Bildungskreis Handwerk e.V. has been successfully involved in training and further education for more than 40 years in a strong association with the Dortmund and Lünen district craft association. On an area of 10,000 square meters, there are eight workshops with modern equipment and qualified employees in the craft competence center. The Sprachzentrum des Bildungskreis Handwerk e.V. is a licensed examination center for the telc exams, which can be taken in many languages and at all levels of the European Framework of Reference (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) for adults and schoolchildren.

The BHK has decided to establish an active commitment to environmental protection. From July 2021, each language course will protect an area of 80 square meters from deforestation in the Peruvian and Canadian rainforests. In 2021 alone, 2,000 square meters will be placed under protection.

Designing climate-compensated language courses is a pilot project in the German educational sector and the BKH is in the lead. According to current plans, other Dortmund language course providers will join the campaign, so that in the next step around 2,000 language course participants can be taught climate-neutrally every year. In addition, other areas of work at the BKH, such as vocational retraining, are also to become climate-neutral.
