Conservation Projects

Welcome to the conservation projects of Wilderness International.

We are engaged in the conservation of the ancient rainforests of the West Coast of Canada together with our partners from Cowichan Tribes on Vancouver Island. Together we identify conservation sites and work for their protection by involving thousands of students from Canada and Germany. One aspect of this project are our student conservation exchanges in Germany and on Vancouver Island. The students apply for scholarships and then represent their communities as ambassadors for nature and their culture.

In the Western Arctic of Canada's NWT and Yukon Territory we work on establishing large conservation areas. Our project together with the Gwich'in First Nation involved the youth in Fort McPherson and in Germany. Together we did an exchange program and we produced a TV-documentary about this project.

Our photographer J.L.Diehl presents spectacular large-format pictures taken on our student conservation expedition to the Peel Watershed. You can browse these pictures in the Photo-Edition "Three Rivers".
